Paris rewards those who wander. The best moments often happen between landmarks — a perfect croissant, a quiet courtyard, a conversation at a zinc bar. Give yourself time to get lost.

Neighborhoods

Each arrondissement has its own character. Le Marais is the trendiest spot — boutiques, galleries, natural wine bars, and the best falafel on Rue des Rosiers. Saint-Germain-des-Prés is the Left Bank intellectual heart with famous cafés (Les Deux Magots, Café de Flore) and elegant streets. Montmartre has a village feel on a hill — Sacré-Cœur, artists' square, and charming cafés; go early for sunrise from the steps. Belleville is edgy, multicultural, and affordable with street art and diverse food.

Museums & Getting Around

Louvre — book tickets online, enter via Carrousel du Louvre to skip the pyramid queue. First Sunday of the month is free. Musée d'Orsay — smaller, more manageable, stunning Impressionism collection. Sainte-Chapelle — stained glass that will take your breath away; go on a sunny day. Metro: Navigo Découverte pass for 5+ days, carnet (10 tickets) for short stays; RER goes to Versailles and airports. Walk when you can — Paris is compact; Notre-Dame to Louvre is 15 minutes on foot.

Food & Wine

Bistros — classic French fare: steak frites, duck confit, French onion soup. Lunch formules (set menus) are the best value at €15–25 for two courses. Wine bars — natural wine bars dominate Le Marais and the 11th; try Le Baron Rouge for oysters and wine by the glass. Boulangeries — Du Pain et des Idées and Boulangerie Utopie for the best croissants. Marché des Enfants Rouges for prepared food. Skip restaurants on the Champs-Élysées and near the Eiffel Tower — walk 2–3 blocks into side streets for the real thing.

Day Trip: Versailles

Book palace tickets online and arrive at 9am opening to see the Hall of Mirrors before crowds. Take RER C to Versailles Château–Rive Gauche (35 min from central Paris). The gardens are free except on fountain show days — rent a bike or bring a picnic, you can easily spend a full day.
