Capsule Wardrobe

Pack 2–3 neutral bottoms (black pants, jeans, or shorts) and 4–5 tops that all coordinate. Every top works with every bottom. One packable jacket or cardigan beats three sweaters — merino wool layers pack small, resist odor, and work in AC-heavy planes. Shoes: max two pairs — wear bulkiest on the plane, pack one pair of sandals. Underwear: quick-dry materials mean you can wash in the sink and hang overnight; 4–5 pairs is enough for any trip length.

What to Pack

Toiletries: solid shampoo and conditioner bars replace liquids, mini toothpaste, deodorant, and a microfiber towel that packs to fist-size. Tech: one universal adapter, one multi-port charger, cables, and a power bank for long transit days; e-reader instead of physical books. Documents: passport, printed backup copies, travel insurance docs, one credit card, one debit, some local cash, digital copies in the cloud. Daypack: a packable daypack that stuffs into your main bag for day trips and groceries.

What to Skip

"Just-in-case" clothes — that outfit you might need? Leave it. If you truly need something, buy it locally — it becomes a souvenir. Full-size toiletries — buy shampoo, sunscreen, and basics at your destination; drugstores exist everywhere. Multiple jackets — one packable rain jacket doubles as a windbreaker. Hairdryers and irons — most accommodations have them; embrace air-drying.
